Our commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility.

"PEM's view on CSR is one of the main reasons I joined. At every opportunity the firm is looking for ways to give back or improve and supports its staff in doing so too!"

As a firm we know and love Cambridge, the place we’re proud to call home. We’re in a fortunate position to be able to make a positive impact on not only our staff, but the local community and beyond. In setting out our policy for the first time we’re publicly committing to delivering on four key areas:

Charitable giving – The PEM Charitable Trust

Historically, PEM staff have nominated and fundraised for a charity every two years. Most recently we raised over £20,000 for Arthur Rank Hospice Charity.

Towards the end of 2018 we stepped away from supporting one charity at a time and proudly launched the PEM Charitable Trust with the key purpose of: Supporting local Cambridge Charities, no matter how big or small.

Our staff will continue to fundraise as enthusiastically as ever, but now the funds raised will go into one pot. Our Trust committee will consider applications from local charities and causes, and if successful, one-off donations will be awarded. For more information or to apply please email our Corporate Social Responsibility Officer, Amy at csr@pem.co.uk. Please note we hope to start accepting grant applications from January 2023.

(Registered Charity Number 1181792).

We aim to build a culture which actively encourages and empowers staff to get involved in the local community and are proud to announce that we launched our employer supported volunteering scheme at the beginning of 2020;

This allows staff to use a proportion of their working hours to support our community whether that be as a volunteer, trustee or by providing pro bono work or mentoring. We also sponsor and support a number of local charitable events as well as many adult and youth sports teams.

We value our environment and know that our work will inevitably have an impact on it. Wherever possible we try to manage that impact;

We offer a cycle to work scheme and have PEM bikes available for staff wanting to commute between our Cambridge offices or visit a local client. We are in the process of fitting LED lights at our offices, as well as replacing the majority of our waste bins with recycling bins. Staff are encouraged to use mugs and non-disposable water bottles which has seen a reduction in single use containers by 60% – a number we’d like to lower even further.
Our CSR committee is continually looking for ways to reduce our direct impact on the environment and suggestions are always welcome.

Employee wellbeing and development

At PEM we understand that life is more than 9-5 and are proud to have implemented an agile working policy;

This allows our staff to work from home, remotely, or in either of our offices. We offer flexible working hours, a dress for your diary policy, a holiday purchase scheme and most importantly we encourage a healthy work/life balance. We are committed to supporting our employees throughout their professional training courses. From our junior trainees to more senior members of staff, we offer in-house as well as funded external training.
We have a mentoring scheme which helps our newer members of staff settle in and gives them support throughout their progression with us.
We wouldn’t be PEM without our staff, and have developed a package of staff benefits as a thank you for all their hard work.
