20 members of our team took part in a wonderful volunteer day earlier this month.
Following a £1000 donation to the charity, 20 PEM volunteers supported local charity Touch of Sparkle by helping create care packages which are given to cancer patients across Cambridgeshire.
This volunteer day was based at our offices and volunteers supported in hourly slots. We packaged herbal tea (which help with nausea during treatment), fruit sweets (which help mask the metallic taste that can be a side effect of treatment), fluffy socks, leaflets, and even wrote Christmas cards(!) in preparation for December. We were unstoppable and had to drive back to get more items to pack, in the end it was two car loads! A huge thank you to everyone who got involved.
Melanie Hersey, the Founder said “I just wanted to say huge thank you again for organising all of this, and to everyone for working so hard to help support cancer patients in Cambridge. Not only has it been a huge help and many of the items have already been packaged into care packs, it’s been a real inspiration for me because this was my first corporate volunteer day and I think it could really be a model that we use going forward to promote the project. So thank you for steering the project in that direction and giving me the inspiration to do it.”
At PEM we are fortunate enough to be given two days per year to support our local community through volunteering.
