PEM announces promotion of Michael Godfrey to Partner.

PEM is delighted to announce the promotion of Michael Godfrey to Partner. Michael’s appointment marks a significant milestone in a career that has spanned more than two decades with the firm, during which he has become a respected adviser to clients and an integral member of the tax leadership team.

Michael’s journey with PEM began in 2003 when he joined as a trainee accountant in the Business Services Group. In 2011, he moved into the Business Tax team, where he quickly progressed through the ranks from Assistant Manager to Director. His expertise, particularly in transactional and advisory tax work, has played a key role in supporting clients through complex restructuring projects, M&A activity and other significant business events.

Reflecting on his promotion, Michael said:
“It is an exciting time to step into the role of Partner, the firm has ambitious targets, and I hope we continue progressing towards our stretching 2030 goals. Having been at PEM for 23 years, I’m incredibly invested in its success. Growth brings opportunity—and that’s good for all of us.”

Michael’s primary focus as Partner will be on Transactional Tax, advising clients on mergers, acquisitions, restructuring and other strategic transactions. He will also play a pivotal role in strengthening collaboration between PEM’s Business Tax team, Corporate Finance team and other service lines to enhance the firm’s market offering and drive growth.

He added:
“For clients, my aim is to continue providing high quality, timely advice, often on transactions that can have a transformative effect on their businesses and/or personal lives. For the firm, I want to play an active role in shaping and executing our firmwide strategy, particularly by strengthening PEM’s profile and market position in my specialist areas. And for the team, it’s about offering guidance, support and opportunities for development as they progress in their careers.”

Michael attributes much of his development to the colleagues and mentors he has worked with over the years, noting that the depth of experience and collaborative culture within PEM’s tax teams have been key to his progression.

Jan Fachot, Partner and Head of Business Tax at PEM shared his thoughts on Michael’s promotion:
“I’m absolutely delighted to see Michael step into the role of Partner. He is well regarded across the firm, works effectively with colleagues, and builds strong relationships with clients He has played a key role within the Business Tax team, particularly on transactional work, and I’m confident he will contribute meaningfully to the continued development of our transactional tax offering and PEM’s 2030 strategy. This promotion is thoroughly deserved, and I look forward to continuing working closely with him in the years ahead.”
