About Michael

Michael joined PEM as an ACA trainee in August 2008 after gaining a First Class degree in Mathematics and MSc from the University of Exeter. Having qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2011, he now manages a large portfolio of audit and accounts clients. Michael has been a Responsible Individual (RI) since 2020 and was appointed Partner in October 2022.

Michael enjoys complex, technical accounting assignments and he is responsible for fulfilling client compliance needs for preparation of financial statements, auditing and independent examinations. His focus areas are:

  • Charities
  • Not-for-profits
  • Cambridge colleges
  • Venture Capital funds
  • Large corporate groups

Michael says the best part of his role is the variety of clients and the interaction he gets with the staff, directors, shareholders and trustees.

In 2019, he took on his first trusteeship and became treasurer of a small, user-led mental health charity in Cambridge called Lifecraft. At the same time he completed the ICAEW’s Diploma in Charity Accounting (DChA) confirming his commitment to working in this sector.

PEM is different because of its personal approach by everyone from our new trainees all the way up to the Partners. This underpins our three core values of authenticity, clarity and connection. We are also actively engaged with our local community, giving back both expertise and time to those who need it.

Every Thursday evening you will find Michael leading the 18th Cambridge Scout Troop. Outside of work and volunteering, Michael is busy spending time with his young family and pug, Angus who likes regular short walks.
