The PEM Property Team has experience of dealing with a wide variety of clients and assignments in the property sector.
Types of clients
- We audit and advise many construction businesses, ranging in size from smaller companies up to groups with turnover exceeding £100 million.
- We particularly specialise in advising property development businesses varying from single projects to groups with over 30 Special Purpose Vehicles.
- A number of our developer clients require offshore structuring, joint venture arrangements and Special Purpose Vehicles in order to mitigate their overall tax liabilities
- PEM’s Corporate Finance team acted as advisors on a restructuring transaction to ensure management succession at a large plant equipment business turning over in excess of £20m (link to PEM Corporate Finance)
- A number of PEM clients operate business parks and receive advice in respect of the development and letting of the sites
Specific assignments
- Our clients receive specialist advice regarding VAT related issues such as:
- The “golden brick” strategy when building Housing Association properties
- Options to tax
- Listed buildings
- Cash flow management of VAT liabilities when buying properties
- We provide advice on succession and Inheritance Tax issues such as the classification of properties as either investment or development properties
- Capital allowance claims are maximised when working with clients and their advisors on the initial building of their properties
- Clients who are making profits or have built up reserves in the good times often need assistance with tax effective profit extraction and we are working with others on strategies to counter the new 50% tax rate
- Management accounts and project accounting is often critical when clients are looking for funding or refinancing. We have considerable experience in this area.
- Restructuring businesses is an effective use of management time in preparation for an exit or a partial disposal once the economy improves. We work with business owners providing advice.
- We are working with an increasing number of construction businesses who are experiencing difficult HMRC enquiries with regard to the employed / self-employed status of specific types of workers.
