A new survey shows that SMEs in the UK are as worried about technology not working as traditional issues such as difficult clients and suppliers.
The YouGov survey of Small Businesses, commissioned by Internet security specialists Trend Micro, found that 42% of all respondents had concerns about technology not working. A similar number voiced concerns about difficult clients and suppliers, with heavy workloads (30%), tight deadlines (26%) and long hours the next highest ranking issues causing concern.
"This shouldn't come as a major surprise" says Jon Stanton Director of PEM IT Services based in Cambridge. "SMEs are becoming increasingly reliant on technology to run their businesses, whether it is using the Internet and email to generate and process sales, using computerised accounts and invoicing, or paying your bills through online banking. Not having email for a day is not just an inconvenience - it will be costing you money in lost time and sales."
Increasingly, PEM IT Services is finding businesses are now taking up the option to outsource their IT support to specialist providers. Outsourced services from PEM include real-time system monitoring, reporting potential issues before they become a problem. Adds Jon, "Directors of SMEs already have enough on their plate, just managing and growing their businesses. With PEM IT Services managing their systems, it gives them the peace of mind that things will just work and is one less thing for them to worry about."
