Specialist Sectors

In order to bring specialists together to serve specific market sectors, PEM have created internal Teams for 8 key industry areas, one of them being Cambridge University Colleges. These focused teams reinforce the quality of service and advice offered to our clients from all related service areas within PEM.

Cambridge University Colleges

PEM have an unrivalled reputation in working with the Cambridge Colleges and act for 19 Colleges, over half of the total number. The key aim of the Cambridge Colleges Team is to use the combined expertise of our staff to enable PEM to deliver specialist advice and consistent service to our Cambridge college clients. Alongside the main activities of teaching and research, colleges also provide accommodation, catering and other services to students. They typically offer conferencing facilities and may have limited liability subsidiaries. The team ensures that PEM staff understand all of these activities and have the expertise and resources to provide timely and relevant services appropriately. Managing Partner Paul Chapman, who is Chairman of this team, has for many years acted as the “Specialist Adviser” to the College Accounts Working Party and Technical Sub-committee of ICCA and therefore has invaluable expertise in this area. Our specialist team are able to assist in the following areas:-

• Statutory audit and compliance with the Education Memorandum
• Accounting methods including RCCA compliance
• Advising on structures for tax efficient trading activities
• Review of internal accounting and reporting systems
• Carrying out Risk Management Assessments and other management reports
• Assistance with raising finance for capital projects
• Providing comprehensive VAT advice
