The Partners and employees of PEM recognise the importance of approaching their responsibilities for corporate responsibility in a co-ordinated and committed fashion.
Working across the firm PEM has developed a co-ordinated approach based on three areas: working with the community, impact on the environment, and an ethical approach to business.
Our Work in the Community
Involvement in the local community is of great importance to PEM - we consider ourselves as community accountants being committed to the people of Cambridge and the surrounding area.
At PEM we aim to contribute to our community by:
- Annually selecting specific local charities to support as a firm
- Supporting these charities through donations, fundraising and practical help
- Supporting individual staff members in their own community action and fundraising, both practically and financially.
To fulfil these aims PEM has set up a Community Action Group to co-ordinate it's fundraising and charitable activities in the community. Our objective is to encourage our partners, management and staff to play a significant part in the development of our local communities.
Impact on the Environment
The Partners and management are committed to achieving a real and sustainable positive impact on the broader community in which we live and work. We believe that it is essential that both as a firm and as individuals we should operate in an environmentally conscious manner. Our objective is to minimise the negative impact of our business activity on the environment, wherever possible.
Our initial objectives are to:
- Evaluate energy usage to see how we can use lower energy systems
- Measure and reduce the amount of resources we use
- Aim for a paper-free office culture
- Reduce our paper correspondence where alternative communications can be used
- Reuse existing furniture and equipment rather than replacing where possible
- Recycle waste where possible and practical.
Ethical Approach to Business
PEM maintains the highest level of professional integrity with regard to our clients, staff and professional regulators, along with others with whom we interact. Our objectivity and independence together with client confidentiality are key core values of our Business.
PEM continues to embrace a work-life balance for its staff, providing flexible working options to allow staff to manage their personal and work commitments.
PEM seeks to actively incorporate not just economic but also social and environmental considerations into our purchasing decisions. We aim to treat suppliers fairly and responsibly by having fair terms of business and paying on time.
On-going monitoring and improvement
PEM has established a working party to continually monitor and improve our approach to Corporate Responsibility. This includes staff from across the firm and has full backing of the PEM Management Committee and Partners.
As part of this process, we will monitor our progress against our objectives to ensure compliance by our offices and we will continue to set new objectives for the future.
